Back in March 2020, having the luxury to work from home was a foreign concept to many. As we’ve adjusted to this strange new world, the desire to create a functional and beautiful workspace is becoming increasingly necessary. Here we spotlight two of our editors’ favorite home offices to grace the pages of Gentry HOME and the five key furnishings and accessories selections that can help you get the look: a great desk, task lighting, ergonomic seating choices, functional cabinets and shelves, and inspiring art.
San Francisco-based designer Jeff Schlarb is known for his energetic interiors filled with wildly creative color schemes and superbly curated artistic concepts. “I want people to come home and be wowed every time,” relates the designer. His high-tech executive client wanted Schlarb’s wow factor throughout her beautiful San Francisco home, but when it came to her office she craved a crisp, elegant space. Schlarb delivered a sophisticated, light-filled space with plenty of storage—key to keeping clutter at bay. Author and interior designer Jay Jeffers was encouraged by his Silicon Valley client to push the design envelope and make bold design decisions throughout this stunning hilltop home. While everyone might not be able to have a swimming pool window in their home office, they can embrace Jeffers’ take on a workspace that truly works. Here, that means a massive desk, array of cabinets, and built-in bookcases perfect for staying organized and stylish (note: the fun adjacent play space for keeping an eye on the kiddos).
